Accessibility at Glenlee Guesthouse, Swanage

INTRODUCTION

We are a small guest-house with six letting bedrooms all en suite, one of which is a ground floor room. There are four rooms on the first floor and a further room on the second floor. The following statement is a summary of our facilities.

PRE-ARRIVAL

The guest house is positioned on a level road, the town centre being approximately a 15-minute walk away and the beach about a five-minute walk away. A bus stop for Studland and Bournemouth is around a five-minute walk away and buses to Wareham and Poole are in the town centre. The nearest main line railway station is at Wareham (10 miles). ARRIVAL AND CAR PARKING FACILITIES

You may check in to the Glenlee from midday on arrival day. Please phone or email us if you would like to request an earlier check-in, or are likely to be later than 10pm. On arrival, please ring the bell at the main entrance at the left-hand side of the building where you will be greeted. The entrance and car park is lit at night. There is unrestricted parking (except for vans) on the road opposite the guest house and we have a car park at the rear with six spaces. The driveway and car park is tarmac with a slight gradient. Please advise us in advance if you would like a space nearest the entrance.
The main entrance has two steps into the doorway which has a width of 86cm and a handrail to one side. Assistance with luggage is offered.

MAIN ENTRANCE AND RECEPTION

The front door is kept locked and a key is provided with your room key to give 24hour access. The door bell is at a height of 1.2 metres. On arrival, guests are shown to their rooms and the facilities are explained. A welcome folder in the bedroom (in large print) also explains our facilities.

PUBLIC AREAS:

DINING ROOM

Our ground-floor dining room has wood flooring and has an entrance door 76cm wide. Guests sit at individual tables, which have a centre pillar support for easy access. Chairs are without arms. Menus and wine lists are all in large print. Please advise us in advance of special dietary requirements. A complete list of the 14 most common allergens in the EU that are contained in our menu items is available in the dining room. Easy-grip handles for cutlery are available on request.

LOUNGE

We have a large sunny lounge for guests' exclusive use at all times. Access from the reception is via a 76cm wide door. Settees, armchairs and a large table with dining chairs are provided. Drinks can be served throughout the day and evening. Service is available by ringing a bell at the reception desk. There is access to a small sun porch with two chairs which looks out onto the front garden. Further access to a patio area is possible via a 80cm door and two shallow steps. Bench seats for up to four persons are provided on a rough Purbeck stone patio.

WC

There is a toilet with hand wash basin leading from the reception area via a 68cm wide door. The room is approximately 1.6 x 0.8 metres.

STAIRS AND LANDINGS

Stairs have fitted carpet, a width of 86cm and a hand rail on the left. They are in three sections with two half landings up to the first floor with a total of 16 steps. One family room, one triple room, one double room and one twin room are on the first floor. There is a door (with door closer) leading to the second floor. These have a width of 80cm, a handrail on the left and are in two sections with a half landing and a total of 14 steps. A fire escape door leading to an outside emergency staircase leads from the half landing. The second floor has one double guest bedroom.

BEDROOMS

All have wardrobes and bedside tables with individual lighting. All bedrooms have central heating with manual adjustment of radiators. Extra heaters are available on request. All en suites have heated towel rails and non-slip bath/shower mats. A bath seat is available on request. Beds are made up with sheets and blankets with a throw. Extra blankets and pillows are supplied in the wardrobe. A hospitality tray with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, fruit teas and biscuits is supplied. A jug containing drinking water and glasses are also supplied. Other facilities supplied include TVs with remote control and subtitles, DAB clock radios and a hairdryer. Free Wi-Fi is available in all bedrooms and public areas. All doorways into bedrooms are 76cm wide except for Room 4 which is 71cm.

ROOM 1

Family room - 1st floor - Approx 6.8 x 6 metres.
This has a 4'6" double bed and two 3' single beds with a bed height of 68cm. Two armchairs and dressing table with stool.
Basin with height of 84cm. Two doors 61cm width each to WC and shower with step height of 26cm.

ROOM 2

Triple room - 1st floor - Approx 4 x 6 metres.
This has a 5' king-size bed and a 3' single bed with heights of 70cm. There are two armchairs and a coffee table. Single step 14cm and a door 75cm wide leads to a bathroom containing a basin at 76cm high, WC and bath with shower attachment over and a handrail.

ROOM 3

Double room - 1st floor - Approx 3.1 x 3.9 metres.
This has a 5' king-size bed with height of 70cm. Two chairs. Door 66cm wide leading to shower room containing basin at 80cm height, WC and shower with step height of 23cm.

ROOM 4

Twin room - 1st floor - Approx 3 x 4 metres.
This has two 3' single beds with height of 68cm. There are two chairs and a dressing table. Three steps and door 80cm wide lead to the bathroom. Basin with height of 77cm, WC and bath with shower attachment over and handrail.

ROOM 6

Double room - 2nd  floor - Approx 3.7 x 4 metres.
This has a 5' king-size bed with height of 70cm. Two chairs, coffee table and dressing table. Door 75cm wide leading to bathroom. Basin with height of 80cm, WC and bath with shower attachment over and handrail.

ROOM 8

Double room - ground floor - Approx 3.1 x 3.9 metres.
This has a 4'6" double bed with height of 68cm. Two chairs. Door 67cm wide leading to bathroom. Basin with height of 81cm, WC and walk-in shower with handrail. Limited width access to WC (40cm) between shower and basin.

LAUNDRY

Not available on premises but there is a launderette in the town (approx 20 minute walk).

RESTAURANTS

The nearest restaurant is the Bull & Boat and is approx seven-minute walk. The Crow's Nest pub, which is a similar distance away, also has a restaurant, as does The Grand hotel. Many more restaurants and cafes are available in the town centre.

SHOPS

A range of shops and supermarkets in the town centre aea about a 15-minute walk away. Short-stay car parking is available in the town centre. Newspapers can be ordered in advance for you on request and placed on your breakfast table at the Glenlee.

LEISURE FACILITIES

Swanage Bay View Caravan Park has a public swimming pool and gym. Panorama Road, approximately five minutes by car. Phone No. 01929 422130.

OUTDOOR FACILITIES

Across the road from the guest house is a Beach Gardens containing tennis courts, a putting green and a bowling green. Phone No. 01929 424339.

PAYPHONE

We do not have a payphone. For short important calls you may borrow our cordless phone. The nearest public callbox is located on the seafront outside the Bull & Boat restaurant (a seven-minute walk, approximately).

ADDITIONAL INFO

Dogs not accepted apart from guide dogs.
Children from the age of three are welcome.
Mobile phone reception is good. We ask you to switch off mobile phones while in the dining room.
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building. The password is printed in the guest information folders in the bedrooms and on a sign at the reception desk in the hallway.
All indoor area are non-smoking. Ashtrays are provided on the patio bench seats.
Fire extinguishers are located near the front door and on each landing. We have a fire alarm system with smoke and heat detectors in all rooms. Alarm bells and break-glass units are on each corridor. Evacuation details can be found on the rear of each bedroom door. Please advise us in advance if you need assistance in evacuation of the building in case of fire. Medication requiring refrigeration can be stored in our fridges and made available at all times.
A wide selection of local tourist information and maps is available in the reception area and lounge. The Tourist Information Centre is about a ten-minute walk along the seafront (Shore Road) towards the town centre.
A magnifying sheet can be provided to aid reading.
